Day 1. Usseau - Coussay les Bois - La Roche Posay – 5 ½ hours of horse riding – night at a charming 2* hotel or a gîte for a group (depending on dates)
This morning, all the riders meet at 8.30am to head to the equestrian centre at 9.30am. We will cross the hilly and wooded countryside dotted with old buildings and little castles. We will travel through small villages to the rhythm of the horses’ hooves, and then have a picnic in the heart of Coussay-les-Bois.
Several monuments bear witness to the village’s history: the Notre Dame church of the 12th, 13th and 15th centuries, St Martin’s Church and bell tower of the 12th century, the birth place of Father Coudrin – founding father of the congregation of the sacred hearts of Jesus and Mary - of the 17th century. Lunch in the country, near to a former washhouse at the water’s edge. We will visit the village on foot, seeking out its secrets… After lunch, we will ride through the beautiful undulating countryside to arrive at our accommodation in the charming medieval spa town of La Roche Posay. Dinner and night at a charming 2* hotel or gîte (depending on dates).

Day 2. Night at 2* hotel.
Today we will ride near to the 25 metre high La Roche Posay keep, which dates back to the 12th century, to reach the banks of the river Creuse. After riding through the forest, the horizon opens up to reveal a magnificent panoramic view.  We will cross the river Gartempe to reach our picnic spot in the beautiful French village of Angles sur l’Anglin. Located on the river Anglin, you can visit this magnificent medieval village full of treasures (the old castle, the Roc aux Sorciers frescoes, the tapestries from the “Jours d’Angles” ateliers) as an extra activity, if time allows. In the afternoon we will ride back to La Roche Posay over what used to be railway tracks to reach our destination for the night. Dinner and night at La Roche Posay in a charming 2* hotel or gîte (depending on dates).

Day 3. La Roche Posay - Saint Sauveur - Usseau - 5 ½ hours horseriding
Today we will ride through several villages and the countryside that is typical of the region. Our horses will take us to Saint Saveur, a small and picturesque village overlooked by a magnificent church founded by the Antonin order in 1366. We will stop near to this famous church for lunch: destroyed during the Hundred Years War, it was rebuilt from scratch in the flamboyant Gothic style, characterised by the rich decor of the windows, and both ogee and gothic arches. Burnt down during the wars of religion, it was rebuilt again at the beginning of the 17th century. In the afternoon, we will go past the Groie Forest, a hunting estate, and then we ride across the Vienne River and the surrounding hilly countryside, to return to the equestrian centre. End of ride at around 6pm (option of a transfer to the TGV station at Châtellerault).

Option of spending a night at a 2* hotel at Châtellerault – supplement of €70/person for a double room with half board.

The itinerary for this horse ride may be subject to minor changes depending on the weather and the condition of the paths. Many different routes are possible for this ride.
