For three days, you will have the opportunity to ride through the largest enclosed forest in Europe, which is home to a significant number of various types of deer. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Château de Chambord, a renaissance masterpiece, in all its grand splendour.
Between the 15th and 18th centuries, French nobles left the isolated hills for the majestic banks of the Loire, or the neighbouring valleys, and they built their castles there. Little by little, the castle fortresses were turned into palaces.
King François I decided to build this monumental Château de Chambord in 1519. Leonardo da Vinci, who lived not far from here, was perhaps not a stranger to this style inspired by the Italian Renaissance.
The building site kept 1800 workers and artisans busy for 15 years. There was even talk of changing the course of the Loire river so that it flowed past the castle (in the end, it was a little river, the Cosson, that was rerouted). Inside, an imposing double-helix staircase has seen many grand receptions take place. From the terrace, multiple towers, domes, chimneys and varnished-tiled roofs can be seen on the horizon.
